The Client

IRRI’s mission is to improve livelihoods and nutrition; abolishing poverty, hunger, and malnutrition among those who depend on rice-based agrifood systems. In doing so, IRRI’s work protects the health of rice farmers and consumers, and the environmental sustainability of rice farming in a world challenged by climate change. IRRI’s work promotes the empowerment of women and supports opportunities for youth in an equitable agrifood system.

Key Objectives

Oxford HR worked with the International Rice Research Institute in 2018 in the search for their Director of Finance.

The successful candidate, Angshu Sengupta, had 28 years’ experience in commercial industries and was thrilled to be given the opportunity to work and gain insight in the for-purpose sector.

“The business models are different, objectives are different, challenges are different and unlike the commercial world the priorities here are more focused on research and the well-being of the society at large.”

Both client and candidate were impressed with the Oxford HR process.

I have been impressed with the quality and calibre of candidates they have presented us with and their ability to cast a wide global trawl that wrings out candidates who may not be currently looking giving us more as solid pool of individuals to consider. I wholeheartedly recommend their services.

Angshu is excited for the future:

“I expect to translate financial concepts to my colleagues who are excellent scientists with limited finance background or commercial expertise. I would like to help the organization do things in a better was through automation, better internal controls, meaningful reporting and driving transformation to the extent possible.”

They [Oxford HR] were very positive and encouraging in their approach giving very positive vibes about the recruitment process ahead instead of recruitment firms who think it’s good to keep candidates in the dark and be pessimistic in their communication.. once I started moving to the next rounds they were always there to advise and guide me giving me the necessary visibility, transparency, guidance & prompt feedbacks which as a candidate were so important for me.
