About the Meliore Foundation

The Meliore Foundation is a philanthropic foundation which hosts globally-focused programs related to progressive communications, working across fields like climate, energy, technology and gender. The Audience Insight Hub (AIH) currently sits at the centre of the Foundation and responds to requests for audience research (both traditional and digital) from programs. We are a five person team helping colleagues learn more about their target audiences so they can communicate more effectively with them.

Job Summary

This new role of Strategy Manager will lead the delivery of high-quality research to inform organisational strategy both within Meliore and outside it. Overall, it is about helping the team shift into being more pro-active in the research we do and how we socialise it internally and externally.

Using this research, you will support Meliore Foundation in becoming a thought leader and a trusted source of critical information.

The role will report to the Audience Insight Director.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a program of pro-active audience research (especially polling) of strategic interest to the progressive campaigning eco-system, donors and other stakeholders and lead the communication of it with interested parties.
  • Take what we are learning through both our proactive and reactive audience research and lead a program of work to share it more widely with the progressive communications eco-system. This would be through things like webinars, presentations and training programs which you will shape yourself.
  • Play a leading role in heling teams across the Meliore network translate quantitative and qualitative research into actionable insight that inform their strategies and communications.
  • Promote the effective use of audience insights across the organisation among senior stakeholders by sharing lessons, identifying trends and building colleagues’ understanding of public opinion and audience behaviour.

Candidate Profile

You will bring strong experience in audience research, with a particular understanding of how polling can be used to generate actionable insight. This includes designing and commissioning surveys, developing audience segmentations, conducting message testing, and interpreting findings to support strategic decision-making. Experience of polling in the context of election campaigns would be highly advantageous, although it is not essential. We are interested in candidates who have worked in polling, public opinion research or market research environments, particularly in client-facing or media-facing roles, or who have applied audience research within political parties, government, civil service, think tanks, foundations or advocacy organisations.

You will have a proven ability to identify opportunities for research that can shape debate and influence opinion formers, communications professionals and wider stakeholders. Just as importantly, you will be able to communicate complex research findings in a clear, engaging and accessible way for non-specialist audiences. Experience of presenting research and insight to international audiences, including those for whom English is a second language, would be particularly valuable.

You will also have some experience of translating audience insight into practical recommendations that inform communications, advocacy or campaign strategies. An understanding of how research can be applied to real-world campaigns and communications activity will be an advantage. Finally, you will be comfortable working remotely and collaborating effectively with colleagues, partners and stakeholders across multiple time zones, demonstrating flexibility, self-management and strong organisational skills.
