The Climate Emergency Collaboration Group (CECG) is a philanthropic collaboration between some of the world’s largest climate philanthropies. Our mission is to support and build a diverse ecosystem of actors to accelerate international cooperation on climate and low carbon development. Ensuring the success of the annual UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COPs), and other Multilateral forums is central to CECG’s mission, and we believe these moments have the potential to catalyse collective action, focus impactful organising, and disseminate powerful narratives.

About the Role

The trustee must act with reasonable care and skill, ensure that the charity is accountable and compliant with all legal requirements and work collaboratively with the Board to make balanced and informed financial decisions. As the appointed treasurer, you’ll bring financial insight and oversight to steer financial decisions, assess risks, and plan financial sustainably. You’ll play a vital role in leading CECG’s Finance, Audit & Risk Sub-committee ensuring that CECG meets its legal, financial, and regulatory obligations in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Treasurer is legally accountable for running the charity’s finances, monitors the charity’s financial administration and reports to the board of trustees, ensuring proper controls and financial systems are in place.
  • Review CECG’s financial reports and ensure compliance with UK charity finance & reporting regulations to ensure the charity fulfils its governance responsibilities.
  • Guide and advise the board on the organisation’s financial strategy and position, investment and risk strategies and financial sustainability
  • Oversee the management of bank accounts and ensures that the charity meets its legal accounting and reporting duties, such as preparing annual accounts and reports.
  • Review budgets and forecasts and recommend approval or amendments
  • Review CECG’s finance policies and procedures to ensure strict internal controls and regulatory compliance, as well as safeguarding the charity’s money and assets from risks like fraud & loss.
  • Chair and lead the Finance, Audit & Risk Sub-committee and feed recommendations to the Board for decision making
  • Participate in the Remuneration Sub-Committee decision making processes
  • Attend board meetings and occasional ad-hoc sessions and events such as training

Person Specification

  • Qualified accountant (such as ACCA, CIMA, or ICAEW)
  • Professional experience at CFO/FD level in the UK financial sector/function for at least 10 years
  • A strong background in finance, business administration, or economics, with an understanding of UK charity finance and governance
  • An international finance background with a good understanding of global financial systems and risk management would be advantageous
  • Ability to interpret financial data and make recommendations for decision making
  • Availability to commit sufficient time to the role, including preparation for and attendance at meetings and events.
  • An interest in or knowledge of climate philanthropy.
  • Integrity, sound judgment, and collaborative spirit
