How is Reall contributing to the SDGs?
Housing is a doorway to answering 16 of the 17 SDGs. We aim to build affordable homes for the lowest income and most under-served families, which bring them safety, security and comfort, in locations that are economically and socially sustainable. But more broadly, we know that a safe and decent home is a foundation for impact in almost every other SDG; we can embed improved water, energy and materials solutions in the homes we build, through partnerships with a spectrum of institutions and enterprises, protecting local ecosystems and mindful of climate-related challenges. We can work to influence markets and challenge societal norms to increase women’s access to financial solutions and rights to tenure for their homes. And we know that a better home leads to better educational outcomes, improved health and reduced poverty. The only one we struggle with is SDG 14, Life Below Water, but we’re pretty sure we can even impact here eventually!
Why was it important to you to develop your career in the for-purpose sector?
I made the switch into the for-purpose sector after almost a decade in Higher Education. While my former career was fulfilling in its own way, the for-purpose sector is the only sector I have ever really been passionate about. I honestly can’t imagine working in another sector. I’m always looking for opportunities to expand my skills and experiences so that I can do a better job of working with purpose. I came to Reall after working freelance for a while, and I was looking for a challenge. The role I have taken on in Reall has certainly given me that!
