Philip Sakwa, is a senior HR professional with over two decades of experience leading HR strategy within large commercial and multinational organisations across Africa and the UK, spanning telecommunications, banking, and manufacturing/FMCG sectors. He is currently an Independent Consultant to an FMCG, overhauling talent acquisition and management strategy and strengthening the group’s employer brand through technology. Prior to this, he spent eight years as Group HR Director & Acting Country Manager Kenya at CSquared Group, a commercial telecoms infrastructure business, where he led its transition from Google Inc. into an independent Pan-African company, set up legal entities across sub-Saharan Africa, and during his tenure as Acting Country Manager — held full P&L accountability for the Kenyan operation, overseeing finance, ICT, marketing, and sales alongside the HR function.
Philip’s broader commercial experience includes regional HR leadership roles at Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson (telecommunications), and Commercial Bank of Africa and Stanbic Bank (banking), where he supported business growth, managed HR budgets and cost control, and drove talent and performance strategies in fast-paced, revenue-driven environments. Across these commercial roles he built a strong track record in talent management and succession planning, compensation and benefits design, and change management — including leading a large-scale redundancy process completed without litigation. He complements this private-sector depth with earlier public-sector experience at the London Development Agency, and holds an MA in Employment Studies and HRM from the University of North London and he is a Fellow of the CIPD
