The Client
Mama Cash is the oldest international women’s fund in the world. It was founded in 1983 by a group of feminist activists using the money from one women’s inheritance. Mama Cash works to ensure that feminist collective action led by women, girls and trans and intersex people is resourced, supported and connected within and across and social movements.
Key Objectives
Mama Cash worked with the Oxford HR Interim team in September 2023 to fill the position of Interim Director, People, Finance and Operations (DPFO) as the organisation needed someone in the role by early October. Mama Cash is in the process of hiring a successor to the outgoing DPFO but needed an interim in the role to manage the interim audit, budget 2024 preparations and its grantmaking window.

The role required fluency in Dutch and English, with an emphasis on candidates with a strong financial background, good team management and good mentoring skills. The DPFO also needed an understanding of Dutch audit compliance.
We began seeking qualified profiles in our existing pool of interim candidates. We began interviews the following week and provided Mama Cash with a strong shortlist of 4 candidates; 3 women and 1 man. From these, Mama Cash selected their preferred candidate, Monique Brouwer, who has experience in numerous interim roles, including finance roles, with international NGOs.
During the duration of Monique’s Interim contract, the Oxford HR Interim team maintains regular contact to ensure everything is running smoothly. The initial contract of three months will be extended for another 2-3 months or as long as is needed to have a full handover with the permanent DPFO.
