Dr Neil Matabane-Berry

Research Manager, Africa & Asia Pacific

Neil Berry

Neil joined Oxford HR in 2021 after completing a PhD in Political Studies at the University of Cape Town, where he researched and taught global LGBTIQ+ rights and studied how these are addressed in international institutions through a decolonial, queer lens. He has over 20 years’ work experience in the private, public, and academic sectors, working within the UK, Germany, and South Africa, including as a government economic development specialist for the creative and cultural industries in London. Reporting to both the Mayor of London and central government, he was responsible for promoting and growing the diversity, depth, and energy of the creative industries, through engaging with corporate stakeholders, encouraging private and public investment, providing support for business growth and promoting London as an international centre for culture and commerce. He also has a Master’s in International Relations, focused on resource nationalism across Africa, and a keen interest in equitable and sustainable development and learning new languages.

I love what I get to do at Oxford HR. I like to think of it as matchmaking between impact-driven global organisations and inspiring individuals/leaders. I love that we are committed to change/progress, diversity, and inclusion within the non-profit sector as well as embracing what we preach.
